Blue Ridge Community and Technical College Offers Casino Dealer Classes

Since the gaming market in the states adjacent to Maryland is looking for hundred of new employees, a lot of people are reevaluating their careers in these difficult times. Casino table games like craps will be offered by Charles Town Racing and Slots in West Virginia next month and that has inspired a lot of individuals to enroll in dealer school.

Charles Town has several casino table games currently under construction and several Maryland residents are learning how to become dealers at a gaming school inside the casino facility. The dealer certification training takes place at the Blue Ridge Community and Technical College.

Charles Town officials said that thousands of prospective dealers have applied but only four hundred individuals were chosen. John Poole, who was an insurance salesman, said that aside from craps, he is going to be a blackjack and roulette dealer as well.

Steve Romeko, who is a former horse trainer, said that he lives in Mount Airy and it is only a forty-five minute drive from his residence to Charles Town. He said that he is very excited about becoming a casino table games dealer. Students pay $200 dollars for the introductory casino games course, which is a requirement for learning other casino table games.

Officials said that most of the classes cost four hundred dollars and craps dealer training costs $700 dollars. School officials said that dealer training for blackjack, roulette and poker takes about four weeks and training for craps takes about eight weeks. Officials said that casino dealers must have the skill to give out cards for multiple games and its variations.

It also requires a friendly personality, excellent memory, math skills, dexterity and the patience to stand all throughout the game. Aside from those skills, trainers also teach students how to manage a clean table and to know when someone is cheating. With slot machines coming in Maryland, the state of West Virginia improved the gaming offering by offering casino table games with voter approval.

Those who finish their dealer training must also acquire a state lottery license and a racing commission occupation permit. Casino officials said that they are also not guaranteed that they will have a job after graduation since they need to audition first before getting a job. Dealers can make as much as forty-five thousand dollars annually, plus tips.
